Anthem & New River appliance repair.
Utility gas heats 70 percent of the occupied homes in Anthem and 11 percent of those in New River, by the Census Bureau’s latest five-year estimates. A gas range in a house without a gas main burns propane from a tank, and the water may come from a well or a delivery truck. Both change what a range and an ice maker need.
A range on propane, a house on a well.
About thirty miles up Interstate 17 from downtown Phoenix, the two places are supplied in different ways. Anthem has mains: the Anthem Community Council lists Southwest Gas for natural gas, and for water EPCOR east of I-17 and the City of Phoenix west of it. EPCOR’s 2025 report puts the hardness of its Anthem water at approximately 18 grains per gallon.
New River is unincorporated county land. In 2017 and 2018 the Arizona Department of Water Resources described its homeowners, and those of Desert Hills, as relying on wells rather than a municipal supplier, with commercial water haulers supplying homes by truck as wells went dry. In a March 2023 news release a Maricopa County supervisor says EPCOR then agreed to provide EPCOR-sourced water and long-term infrastructure to New River. Of a private well the County is plain: its Drinking Water Program has no authority to regulate or monitor one, and the owner is responsible for its safety.
A Wolf or Viking range is built for one gas or the other. Wolf’s installation guide sends the installer to the rating plate for the type of gas, and to the local gas supplier if the plate and the supply disagree; it lists 5 inches of water column for natural gas and 10 for LP at the outlet of the range’s own regulator, from a supply of at least 7 and 11 and no more than 14. Viking’s guide gives the same two figures at the manifold and says the regulator built into the range is never to be bypassed. Conversion is not an owner’s job, and it is not ours. Wolf recommends that a service technician make any gas conversion; Viking requires the dealer, a qualified licensed plumber or a gas service company. The tank, its regulator and the line to the range are the propane supplier’s or a licensed gas contractor’s.
We repair the range itself in both places: igniters, spark modules, burners, valves, oven sensors and controls on Wolf, Viking and Monogram, along with Sub-Zero, Viking and Monogram refrigeration, ice makers and wine storage. The diagnostic visit is $119, waived if you go ahead with the repair, and a repair to any of the four makes with the genuine parts we supply carries a 12-month warranty on parts and labor. If you smell gas, do not light anything or touch a switch; leave the house and call your propane supplier, or Southwest Gas in Anthem, or 911 from outside.
Heating fuel: U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 five-year estimates, table B25040 (house heating fuel), read through Census Reporter: utility gas in 6,037 of 8,594 occupied homes in Anthem and 792 of 7,096 in New River. Anthem: Anthem Community Council, new resident information; EPCOR, Anthem 2025 Water Quality Report (hardness sampled in 2024). New River: Arizona Department of Water Resources, September 22, 2017 and May 17, 2018; Maricopa County, March 7, 2023 and Drinking Water Quality. What Propane and a Well Change
- 01
Which gas the range is set for.
The rating plate says. On a Wolf the model number ends in “-LP” on a propane range and in nothing on a natural gas one, and Wolf puts a sticker by the tag on a range that has been converted. Where the plate is.
- 02
What a propane flame looks like.
Blue, with tips that may run orange: Wolf calls some orange tipping normal on LP. A flame yellow all the way through, or one that leaves soot, points on Wolf’s list to the gas supply, a low tank included. Yellow flames, and when they matter.
- 03
The pressure the ice maker gets.
Sub-Zero asks for constant water pressure, 20 to 100 psi in its filter answer, and says a well system can pull it down as the filter loads. For a reverse osmosis system it wants 35 to 120 psi and suggests a pressure booster or regulator. The pump, the pressure tank and the storage tank are a plumber’s side of the wall.
- 04
What is in the water.
Sub-Zero’s filters carry a warning: not for water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. On a private well the testing is the owner’s, and Maricopa County points owners to the state health department’s list of drinking water laboratories. Behind reverse osmosis, Sub-Zero asks for its own filter to be bypassed and for no copper line after the system.
