When the power comes back after a storm, most refrigerators simply start again. Some do not, and the reason is not always what it seems. A control that lost its settings, a board damaged as the power returned, a door left ajar while someone checked the shelves in the dark: each looks like a warm refrigerator, and each is a different repair.
While the power is out, keep the doors shut. By USDA guidance a closed refrigerator keeps food safe for about four hours, and a full freezer holds for about two days. When it returns, write down what the display shows before anything is switched off and on again, and if the cabinet has not started cooling within a few hours, call.
