Litchfield Park & Goodyear appliance repair.

Liberty’s 2026 water quality report for its Litchfield Park and Goodyear system gives a hardness of 8.8 to 21.1 grains per gallon, 13.6 on average, in chlorinated groundwater drawn from 200 to 600 feet down. That is the water behind the dispenser in the refrigerator door, at the addresses Liberty serves.

The water in the door.

Whose water it is depends on the address. The City of Litchfield Park names Liberty Utilities among the services a resident signs up with. In Goodyear, the city’s economic development office puts the City of Goodyear’s own water south of Interstate 10, and EPCOR and Liberty Utilities north of it; the city’s 311 knowledge base has a map that settles it for a single address. Each provider publishes its own annual report. The figures above are Liberty’s, for 2025, and the report for your address is the one that counts.

A refrigerator filter changes some of that water and not the rest. By Sub-Zero’s own performance pages, its water filters reduce particulates and the taste and odor of chlorine, and some also reduce asbestos, lead and mercury. Hardness is not on that list. So a fresh cartridge can change how the water tastes, while the dissolved mineral goes on to the valve, the tank and the nozzle as before.

Which is why two complaints that sound alike are not. Water that tastes of the pool is a filter question, and the filter keeps a schedule: Sub-Zero’s icon appears when the rated volume has passed or after about a year, whichever comes first. Water that comes slowly is a flow question, and it runs from the filter back through the valve and the line to the pressure in the house. The two Sub-Zero cartridges · a dispenser that is slow or dry.

We repair Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking and Monogram in Litchfield Park and Goodyear: refrigerators and their dispensers, ice makers, freezers, wine storage, and ranges and wall ovens. The valve, the tank and the lines inside the cabinet are our work; the supply line in the wall and the pressure behind it are a plumber’s. A diagnostic visit costs $119 and is waived if you go ahead with the repair, and the genuine parts we fit to these four makes are covered, with the labor, by a 12-month warranty.

Hardness and source water: Liberty Utilities, Annual Water Quality Report, 2026 Consumer Confidence Report on Water Quality for 2025, Liberty Water LPSCO (PWS AZ04-07-046), listed by Liberty as Litchfield Park/Goodyear: hardness 150–360 ppm, or 8.8–21.1 grains per gallon, with 233 ppm and 13.6 grains in the Highest Result or Highest Average column. Providers: City of Litchfield Park, frequently asked questions; City of Goodyear Economic Development, infrastructure; City of Goodyear 311 knowledge base. Read October 5, 2026.

Four Checks at the Dispenser

  1. 01

The taste: how old is the filter?

The filter icon is the maker’s answer: the rated volume or about a year, whichever arrives first. Sub-Zero says an unused cartridge has no shelf life, so the spare in the drawer is as good next year as this one.

  2. 02

Dry after a new filter: that is air.

Sub-Zero’s priming answer is to press for no more than 60 seconds, wait 10, press again, and pour away the first few glasses. A Classic (BI) locks its dispenser after a gallon in 15 minutes and shows H2 LO; it unlocks by itself after 45 minutes.

  3. 03

    Slow: time it.

GE’s general check is a measuring cup and 20 seconds: under 8 ounces, the flow is probably inadequate. Then take the filter out of the path, with GE’s bypass plug or, on a Sub-Zero Classic with a twist-in filter, by removing the cartridge. If the flow improves, the filter was clogged.

  4. 04

    Still slow: the pressure.

Sub-Zero asks for a steady 20 to 100 psi on its 500 and 600 Series, and 20 to 100 or 35 to 120 on its others; Monogram asks for 40 to 120. Sub-Zero gives the owner no way to measure it, which makes it a plumber’s question. Behind a reverse osmosis system, both makers want the refrigerator’s own filter bypassed.
