Arcadia appliance repair.

Arcadia’s houses are older than its kitchens. A ranch home from the fifties or sixties, rebuilt inside around a pair of columns and a 48-inch range — in a kitchen like that, how the machine was fitted is half of any diagnosis.

Old houses, new kitchens.

Half the homes in 85018 were built by 1970, and many have been remodeled since. The refrigeration in those kitchens is usually built in and panel-ready: a column pair, a 48-inch side-by-side, a door that matches the cabinets. The machine was new when it went in. The space around it was made for it by whoever did the remodel.

A built-in has to breathe through its grille. On a Monogram built-in, for example, the condenser sits at the top behind the grille, drawing air in on one side and pushing it out the other. A soffit, a piece of trim or a panel set a little proud can crowd that path, and the machine runs slightly hot every day for years before anything fails. Taking a unit out and putting it back is part of the work, so the floor and the panels are protected before anything moves.

We repair Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking and Monogram in Arcadia — built-in refrigerators, wine storage and ice makers, and the Wolf and Viking ranges and wall ovens across the room. $119 to diagnose, waived with the repair, and twelve months on parts and labor with the parts we supply.

Where a Remodel Shows Up Later

  1. 01

    Grille clearance

A soffit or trim added over the grille. The unit runs, never quite as cold as it should, and a little louder each summer.

  2. 02

    A width that almost matched

A replacement one size off the original opening, or a panel set proud. The door that never quite seals on the hinge side.

  3. 03

    The water line behind it

An ice-maker line pinched or kinked when the unit was pushed home. Slow ice first, then none.

  4. 04

    Nothing wrong with the fit

Sometimes the machine is simply twenty years old. Then the question is repair or replace, and replacing a built-in in a finished kitchen is a small remodel of its own. What a repair costs · repair or replace, in numbers.

What We See Most in Arcadia

In an older house with a new kitchen, the fault is often in the fit rather than in the machine. Worth knowing before anyone prices a replacement, since the cabinetry was made for the unit that is in it.
