What We Service
Aphelion Appliance Repair, an independent company, repairs Sub-Zero built-in refrigerators, wine storage, ice makers and freezer columns across the Phoenix metro, including Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. The diagnostic is $119, waived when you go ahead with the repair, and repairs made with the parts we supply carry 12 months on parts and labor. Every visit goes past the failed part: we trace why it failed and check the rest of the appliance before we leave.

Inside a Sub-Zero
Two systems, not one.
A built-in Sub-Zero does not run one refrigeration circuit; it runs two. The fresh-food side and the freezer each have their own compressor, their own condenser circuit, their own filter-drier and their own evaporator. No shared air between the compartments, and no odor crossing from one to the other.
There is a second detail worth knowing. Before the hot discharge gas reaches the condenser, it is routed through tubing in the door gasket seat and around the drain pan. The machine uses its own waste heat to stop the cabinet sweating and to evaporate defrost water. It is elegant, and it means a leak can appear somewhere that looks nothing like a refrigeration component.

That drier rule is not fussiness. Heating a filter-drier to remove it drives the moisture it has collected straight back into the circuit, which is how a repair becomes a second, worse repair a month later.
Dual Refrigeration
Most refrigerators run one sealed system and split the cold between two compartments with a damper. A built-in Sub-Zero runs two complete systems that never meet.
Why it is built this way
Fresh food wants moist air a little above freezing. A freezer wants dry air well below it. One system serving both is always a compromise, and the compromise is usually paid in humidity, which is why produce lasts longer in these cabinets and why the freezer does not smell of last night’s dinner.
Why it changes the repair
It also produces the classic symptom: the freezer is perfect, the refrigerator is warm. On a single-circuit machine that points at a damper or a fan. Here it usually means one entire sealed system has failed while its twin keeps running, and the two are diagnosed, and priced, separately.

Which Sub-Zero do you have?
The same dual refrigeration runs through the two-compartment built-ins; single-compartment models, such as the 601R-2 all-refrigerator and the 601F-2 all-freezer, have one system. The cabinets differ, and the model number tells us which parts to bring. Where to find it.
Classic Series
Formerly Built-In, the BI prefix: side-by-side, over-and-under and French door. The earlier Built-In 600-2 generation (models such as 601R-2, 632-2, 650-2 and 695-2) is the series our error-code list is written for.
Designer Series
Formerly Integrated: built flush and panel-ready, including the column refrigerators and column freezers that pair up behind matching panels.
PRO Series
The PRO 48 and the PRO 36, glass-door or solid-door: a professional cabinet with the same dual refrigeration inside.
Undercounter
Refrigerator drawers, beverage centers and the undercounter ice makers: the same sealed-system principles at a smaller scale.

Sub-Zero questions
The freezer works but the refrigerator is warm. Is that a major repair?
Not necessarily, but it is a sealed-system question. A built-in Sub-Zero runs two independent refrigeration circuits, so this symptom usually means one complete system has stopped while the other runs. The $119 visit establishes which component failed: a fan or a sensor is a small repair, an evaporator or a compressor a larger one. Either way, you get a fixed price before any repair begins.
My Sub-Zero shows an error code. What should I do?
Write the code down and leave the unit powered: switching it off and on can clear the record we need. Codes are specific to the series: our error-code page lists the Built-In 600-2 codes from Sub-Zero’s own service literature. Then tell us the code when you call.
Do you repair the older 600 series?
Yes. The Built-In 600-2 generation (models such as 601R-2, 632-2, 650-2 and 695-2) is the series our published error-code list is written for.
Is a twenty-year-old Sub-Zero worth repairing?
Often, yes, and the visit is how you find out. A sealed-system repair on a built-in costs a fraction of replacing the cabinet and the cabinetry around it, and the diagnosis tells you exactly which repair it is. If we advise against it, you pay the $119 and nothing else.
Are you an authorized Sub-Zero service?
No. Aphelion is an independent company and is not affiliated with Sub-Zero Group. If your unit is still under Sub-Zero’s warranty, contact Sub-Zero first. A covered repair should cost you nothing.
