Viking range & oven repair.
Sealed burners or open, a gas oven or an electric one: a Viking range is named by its series and its fuel, and the repair follows from both. We service the ranges, rangetops and wall ovens in the home.
What We Service
Aphelion Appliance Repair, an independent company, repairs Viking professional gas and dual-fuel ranges and rangetops, and Viking single and double wall ovens, across the Phoenix metro, including Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. The diagnostic is $119, waived when you go ahead with the repair, and repairs made with the parts we supply carry 12 months on parts and labor.
Gas ranges
Sealed-burner and open-burner ranges: surface burners, SureSpark ignition, the bake burner and the infrared broiler.
Dual-fuel ranges
The same sealed burners over an electric oven: bake and broil elements, the convection element and fan, the self-clean latch.
Rangetops
5 Series and 7 Series built-in gas rangetops: burners, igniters and the griddle.
Wall ovens
Single and double electric ovens, Select, Premiere and French-door: elements, convection, timer controls and self-clean. More on ranges and ovens.
Inside a Viking Range
A burner system with a name.
Viking names its parts, and the names tell the series. On 5 Series sealed-burner ranges and rangetops the system is VSH, VariSimmer-to-high: 15,000 Btu burners, with an 18,500 Btu TruPower Plus burner at the front right on the models that carry one. The 7 Series puts 23,000 Btu burners across the front, 15,000 behind them and one of 8,000; its rangetop manual calls them Elevation Burners. The open-burner 5 Series, the VGIC, runs up to 15,000 Btu through burners that come apart: grates, burner bowls and grate supports lift out, over a drip pan that slides out below.
Ignition is SureSpark on all of them. Each knob is a gas valve and an electric switch in one: at any position it lets gas through and starts the igniter sparking, and if the flame goes out while gas still flows, the burner relights by itself. There are no standing pilots, so with the power out nothing lights, and Viking’s manuals say not to try.
Below the burners the fuel decides everything. An all-gas 5 or 7 Series oven bakes on a hidden U-shaped burner of 30,000 Btu and broils under Gourmet-Glo, a burner that heats a metal screen until it glows, rated at 1,500°F with the door closed. A dual-fuel oven is electric: split bake and broil elements, the bake element concealed, and a convection element by the rear fan that works alone in TruConvec.
Self-clean follows the fuel too. On 5 and 7 Series dual-fuel ranges and most wall ovens the cycle is pyrolytic: the latch engages within 30 seconds, the cycle runs about three and a half hours, and the door stays locked roughly thirty minutes more while the oven cools. The controls are knobs, and on the 7 Series they are backlit: the rings pulse through preheat, and the backlight is yellow in self-clean and red for an error.

Viking’s Own Troubleshooting List
A near-identical table closes Viking’s range manuals, with self-clean rows in the 7 Series and 3 Series ones; the last row is from the wall oven manual. The third column is whose step it is.
| Problem | Possible cause, per Viking | Whose step |
|---|---|---|
| Range will not function | Not connected to electrical power: the circuit breaker, wiring and fuses | An electrician’s, Viking says |
| Igniters will not work | Circuit tripped, fuse blown, or the range not connected to power | Yours |
| Igniters sparking, but no flame | Gas supply valve in the off position, or the supply interrupted | Southwest Gas’s or a licensed gas contractor’s |
| Igniters sparking continuously after the flame lights | Power supply not grounded; polarity reversed; igniters wet or dirty | Wet or dirty: yours. The outlet: an electrician’s |
| Flame large, distorted or yellow | Burner ports clogged; the wrong type of gas; air shutters not properly adjusted | Clogged ports: Viking’s manual covers their cleaning. The rest: a technician’s |
| Broil does not work | Temperature knob turned too far past the broil position | Yours |
| Oven does not operate in self-clean | Door not shut tight enough for the automatic latch to lock | Yours |
| Door will not open | Still in self-clean: the latch releases when a safe temperature is reached | Wait |
| Oven indicator light on, oven will not heat | The oven is operating properly, and resumes heating once it has cooled | Wait |
| A wall oven will not function | Lights out: the circuit breaker. Lights on: the MANUAL/TIMED switch, which belongs in MANUAL | Yours |
Past the list, Viking’s manuals refer all servicing to a qualified servicer, gas conversions included. One instruction about self-clean: a fan should be heard during the cycle; if it is not, call service before cleaning again. The burner rows beside Wolf’s: A burner that clicks and will not light.

- 01Burner clicks and will not lightViking’s list is short: the gas supply valve, then an interrupted gas supply. Past those, a technician looks at the igniter and at the valve and switch behind the knob.igniter · valve switch
- 02Igniters keep sparking with the flame litViking lists a wet or dirty igniter, and also the outlet: a supply that is not grounded, or reversed polarity.igniter · grounding
- 03Flame large, uneven or yellowClogged ports first. The wrong gas for the range, or air shutters out of adjustment, is not an owner’s adjustment.ports · air shutters
- 04Gas oven will not heat, or heats slowlyViking’s table has one case here that is not a fault: an oven waiting to cool. Past it, the bake burner, what lights it, and the temperature control.bake burner · ignition

Which Viking range do you have?
Viking lists its gas and dual-fuel ranges in four collections today: 5 Series, 7 Series, 3 Series and Tuscany. The model number gives the collection, the fuel and the width: VGR is a sealed-burner gas range, VGIC an open-burner one, VDR dual fuel. Where to find it.

Under Viking’s warranty, call Viking first.
Viking’s cooking warranty, document 085216-000A of January 2026, is full for two years on ranges, rangetops and built-in ovens and all their component parts, counted from the date of original retail purchase or, for new construction, the closing date, whichever period is longer. In years three through five it is limited to named parts, free for the part itself, with shipping, handling and labor the owner’s: on gas products any surface, bake, broil, griddle or grill burner; on electric ones any bake, broil, convection or surface element. Ignition systems, burner bases and burner caps are excluded by name.
Warranty service has to be performed by a Viking authorized service agency, and the warranty does not apply to damage from repair by anyone else. We are an independent company and not that agency, so inside those terms the call goes to Viking Customer Care, 1-888-845-4641, and a covered repair should cost you nothing. Is the built-in still under warranty?
Two recalls on Viking gas ranges.
The CPSC lists two recalls for Viking freestanding gas ranges. No. 15-144, of May 21, 2015: about 52,000 ranges whose ovens can turn on by themselves, a burn hazard. No. 22-082, of February 16, 2022: about 3,050 5 Series VGR and VGIC ranges made from August 10 to December 1, 2021, whose rigid gas tubing can separate at the joint to the bake, broil and griddle burners; the CPSC says to stop using those three functions. Each remedy is a free repair arranged through Viking. Models and serial numbers: Is your Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking or Monogram under a recall?

Viking range questions
What is the difference between a Viking sealed burner and an open burner?
Mostly how they clean, by Viking’s own answer. An open burner breaks down: the grates, burner bowls and grate supports go to the sink, and Viking says bowls and removable grate supports exist only on the 5 Series VGIC ranges. A sealed-burner range has a one-piece porcelainized top that contains a spill. Viking says the two perform alike.
Why do the igniters on my Viking keep sparking?
Viking’s troubleshooting table gives three causes for igniters that spark continuously after the flame has lit: a power supply that is not grounded, a supply with its polarity reversed, and igniters that are wet or dirty. The last is the owner’s: let the burner dry after a spill or a cleaning. The first two are an electrician’s. A smell of gas is another matter: leave the house and call Southwest Gas or 911 from outside.
Does a Viking gas range self-clean?
It depends on the series. Viking lists its current all-gas 5 Series and 7 Series ranges without self-clean. The 3 Series gas range does self-clean, in about two and a half hours. Viking’s 5 and 7 Series dual-fuel ranges self-clean in about three and a half hours.
What does Viking’s warranty cover on a range after two years?
Parts only, and a short list of them. Viking’s cooking warranty, dated January 2026, is full for two years from the date of original retail purchase. In years three through five it supplies gas burners and electric oven and surface elements as parts, with shipping, handling and labor the owner’s; ignition systems, burner bases and burner caps are excluded by name. Inside the two full years, call Viking first at 1-888-845-4641: warranty service has to be performed by a Viking authorized service agency, and we are independent.
Where is the model number on a Viking range or wall oven?
On the 5 Series gas range and on 7 Series ranges and rangetops, Viking’s manuals put the model and serial number under the control panel; on a range, open the oven door to see it. On the open-burner 5 Series VGIC it is on the left-hand side wall of the burner box, under the left grates, burner bowls and grate supports. On the 3 Series gas range it is underneath the front edge of the control panel; on a 5 Series rangetop, underneath the base at the front; on a wall oven, on an identification plate at the top left of the door opening. Look only when the appliance is cool.
